Why is a phosphate buffer used in this experiment?

That is the question, isn't it?
The answer is this:
The phosphate serves as a pH buffer in this experiment so that the solution does not become too acidic. If the pH drops too low, the protein will denature, and the experiment will be ruined.
...So there you have it.
That's the answer to your Biology Lab question.

Boy.
We're both online, and for the first time in 3 weeks, he's not chatting with me. This is mind-blowing stuff, I tell you. "Why?" you ask.
He's ALWAYS talking to me. Not that I mind...I like the attention and all. Lol, but after a while, you just wanna do other things, right? And having a chat thread tying you to the computer doesn't really help.
But the real mind-blowing this is that I WANT him to talk to me. Once he starts, I'll want him to stop, but.... Yeah. I fail at life. xD

I think I'm done rambling to the air for right now. :)
